Abstract Triptych Painting
You may be asking yourself the question what does triptych mean?
Well...a triptych is a work of art that is divided into three parts. Originally, the middle panel would be the largest flanked by two smaller panels but triptych paintings can also be seen with equal sized panels.
Even though you are being asked to create three paintings, all three paintings will be shown together and are required to share a commonalty component meaning all three have to share a common component that makes them cohesive pieces together. This cohesive component may mean repeating the same color scheme throughout all three, repeating techniques, and/or incorporating the same subject matter in all three paintings but changing the colors or placement of shapes/objects.

YOUR JOB:
1. Study Abstract Acrylic paintings online...truly look through and dissect what you believe to be the artist's techniques. (search specifically, acrylic on wood, acrylic on glass, acrylic on.....) (art history painting) (think about where you might go and let that help specify your search).
2. Find FOUR acrylic paintings/artists that you find inspirational, save them to a folder in your photos on you iPad. These images will inform your acrylic assignment.
3. Using YOUR FOUR INSPIRATION paintings/artists as a starting point, propose a plan for your final painting. This plan will involve a sketch and a discussion with me. Include color choices.
4. Decide the surface upon which you want to paint: canvas that is in class, wood, rock, plastic sheet, glass.....the options are wide open.
5. Ask yourself: what do you look for when you look at a painting? Why do you like it? What motivates you to keep looking? This is your chance to LEARN how to do that! This is your chance to EXPERIMENT AND CREATE FOR YOURSELF.
PAY ATTENTION:
composition matters
brush strokes matter
color blends matter
content matters
your plan and your personal creativity matter
DO NOT PAINT A CLICHE....BE UNIQUELY ORIGINAL
